The C.A. Lawton Co. celebrates 10 years with the Green Tier program

The C.A. Lawton Co., a leader in the iron foundry industry, has announced its 10-year anniversary with the Green Tier program in Wisconsin. The program empowers organizations on the path to sustainability by helping them use a systematic approach to minimize environmental risk.

Lawton became the first Green Tier participant to receive coverage under the exclusive Green Tier Registration Permit, providing the company with added agility to modify operations in response to changes in customer demand.

“We can use what Green Tier membership provides us to better manage our efforts and programming at all our locations,” Alex Lawton, fifth-generation foundry owner and CEO of The Lawton Standard Co. “Our participation in Green Tier is a win-win for the company and the community.”

Green Tier has helped Lawton in many ways including these three projects:

  • Lawton hosts an annual employee e-waste recycling and document shredding event. The event results in almost 25 lbs. of e-waste per employee being diverted from the landfill yearly.
  • The company converted a major customer from preparing iron castings for shipment with volatile organic compound-containing rust preventer to Vapor Corrosion Inhibitor (VCI) packaging. VCI technology eliminates the need for rust prevention coating application, is environmentally friendly, and is recycled back to the manufacturer by the customer.
  • Green Tier has encouraged Lawton to look for ways to clean around the facility. A site-wide clean-up project reduced obsolete metallic equipment and scrap iron castings. This generated over $40,000 in cash through recycling.

Lawton believes in the commitment to superior environmental performance and seeks to identify opportunities to engage employees and continue to improve the local environment through environmental management systems and strong leadership support.
