AFS magazines win publishing awards

Modern Casting and Casting Source received two writing awards from the American Society of Business Publication Editors (ASBPE) at the Upper Midwest Region awards banquet in Chicago on April 13. Called the “AZBEES,” the awards recognize excellence in journalistic reporting for business-to-business and trade publications.

Kim Phelan, contributing editor, won the gold award in the Q&A category. This category for interview-based articles. Phelan’s entry, “Who Will Be the Next Owner of Your Business,” also was one of the highest scoring submissions in all regions, making her a national AZBEES finalist in this category. The national results will be announced May 11.

Dave Charbauski, columnist for Casting Source, also won the gold award for the Upper Midwest Region in the Regular Column, Contributed category for his “Industry Insider” column. Charbauski is a retired Caterpillar casting purchasing and supplier quality executive.

Over 1,000 entries are regularly submitted to the annual AZBEES competition, which includes categories in print, web, and design.

Modern Casting and Casting Source are publications of the American Foundry Society covering the metalcasting industry.
