Olazabal y Huarte SA, Vitoria, Spain, has purchased a new 20-ton melting furnace and simulation software in an effort to add larger casting weights to its capabilities.
The furnace is Olazabal’s third melting unit. The mid-sized gray and ductile iron caster also has purchased NovaCast Foundry Solutions’ NovaFlow & Solid and Nova Stress simulation software. According to its managing director, Olazabal expects the investment to allow it to pour ductile iron castings up to 50 tons and steel castings up to 15 tons.
“[We will] simulate heavy castings with dimensions up to seven meters in diameter,” said Managing Director Gurutz Franco Leiza. “The software will increase the efficiency of the whole technological process in our [facility].”
Olazabal has an annual capacity of approximately 10,000 tons and currently pours ductile iron castings up to 30 tons. The company serves the wind energy, mining and cement, valve and pump, and tool and die industries.
