Released on November 25, 2009

The Foundry Education Foundation (FEF) announced on Nov. 19 at its annual conference that Brad Bowman, Mohawk College, was this year’s FEF/AFS Distinguished Professor. The foundation’s Student Delegate scholarships also were presented at the conference (see below for complete list). In all, 17 students were awarded a total of $35,000. Additionally, the Keith Millis and Ron Ruddle scholarship recipients were announced.

At the FEF Annual Reception on the evening of November 20, the foundation’s highest award, the E.J. Walsh Award, was presented to former FEF student and President Lifetime Patron Chuck Fowler, president and chief executive officer of Fairmount Minerals, Wedron, Ill.

The 62nd annual FEF College Industry Conference was held at the Drake Hotel, Chicago. Over 225 industry executives, student delegates, key professors and university administrators attended the event, which began with an Industry Information Session that gave 74 student delegates the opportunity to interact with representatives of 19 companies in the metalcasting industry.

Also announced at the reception was the creation of the Peter L. Simpson Fellowship Endowment, a $700,000.00 fund created by Simpson Technologies that will support “the purpose of basic research, the purchase of advanced laboratory instrumentation or other equipment and/or financial aid for students or professors conducting research into the general field of [metalcasting] sand preparation and control.”
