Released on October 20, 2009

Thresher Industries Inc., Hanford, Calif., announced it has completed a retro-fit of one of the two high pressure die casting machines it acquired in April.

The company reported that it upgraded the machine with advanced controls and a more efficient main electric motor for its hydraulics. The upgraded diecaster is reportedly capable of filling parts in less than 20 milliseconds while casting parts from ounces to 15 lbs. with cycle times of less than 30 seconds.

“Our new work cell is streamlined and capable of high-volume output yet has little impact on the environment,” said Tom Flessner, Thresher’s president and chief executive officer. “We believe that recycling old machines is not only good for the environment, but is a more profitable way to significantly upgrade our business while controlling costs. We anticipate significant growth through 2010. The increased capacity alone [should yield] $4 million in annualized revenue year over year.”

According to a Thresher press release, the company plans to complete a total of three high-pressure machine upgrades by the end of the year, parts permitting. The second machine is expected to be complete and operational by mid-November, and the third is expected to be finished by December.

Thresher makes aluminum and metal matrix composite die castings for a variety of markets, including homeland security, defense and aerospace, transportation, automotive and agriculture.
