Mod Tech Industries, Inc., Shawano, Wis., announced the release of its Air Assist Movement System or AAM System (patent pending). The AAM System is designed to substantially increase the productivity and throughput of a coordinate measuring machine (CMM). In addition, numerous other benefits are inherently gained in regard to safety, ergonomics, accelerated feedback of data to the shop floor, equipment preservation, repeatability, labor reductions, multiple set-ups, etc. Virtually maintenance free, the AAM System consists of two plates, locator stops, bumpers or guide-rails, and an air supply and control system.
The concept of the system is to allow for the measuring of a manufactured part or parts located on one AAM plate in a measuring location, while another product is simultaneously being set up or staged on a second plate. Once the first part measurement program is complete, it is moved via the AAM plate from the measuring location to its origin or home position by literally floating on a cushion of air. The second plate is then relocated to the measuring location by the same process. At this time “plate one” is now available for another part set up. This process of exchange continues in an alternate sequence for as many like parts or different parts there are to be measured. With the recommended air supply, an AAM plate can easily lift and effortlessly move well over 500 pounds making it adaptable for use on most CMM’s. The system is also removable allowing for ultimate flexibility of your CMM.
With the aid of the AAM System, your CMM is allowed to reach its maximum productivity potential. With ultimate utilization of the system’s capabilities, the return on investment can be as minimal as a few months. And when you add the safety and ergonomic value the system brings, it is a must for every manufacturing plant’s metrology lab.
