NADCA Announces Winners of 2009 Design Competition Print E-mail

Released on July 15, 2009

The North American Die Casting Association (NADCA) has announced eight winners and two honorable mentions in its annual International Die Casting Design Competition, intended to showcase outstanding diecast designs.

“For this year’s competition, there was no sign of slow down in the area of innovation and pushing the limits of what the diecasting process is capable of achieving,” said NADCA design engineer Dan Meyer. “Many of the winning die castings utilized revolutionary part and die designs.”

Submitted castings were reviewed by a panel of independent judges, and winners were selected in several categories grouped by material. For each category, the die castings were evaluated based on ingenuity of casting and product design, overall quality, cost savings and contribution to expanding the market for diecasting.

The winners were: Aluminum Complex Components Inc. for its turbocharger impeller, Phillips Plastics Corp.—Magnesium Injection Molding for its micro-projector main housing, Chicago White Metal Casting Inc. for its aluminum mirror mount, medical imager side wall, and control head baseplate, Cast Products Inc. for its awning lock disk/sleeve, Pace Industries—St. Paul Division for its right and left hand snowmobile clips, and Caudle Manufacturing Co. Inc. for its fire truck pump intake screen. Honorable mention winners were Allied Die Casting Co. of North Carolina for its axel carrier housing and Blue Ridge Pressure Castings Inc. for its Mack truck grill surround.
