ProMetal RCT LLC, Troy, Mich., has been named by Voxeljet Technology GmbH, Augsburg, Germany, as its North American distributor of 3-D printing systems for investment casting patterns.
According to a press release issued by the company, ProMetal will offer the new systems along with its existing line of rapid casting sand printing systems. ProMetal, an Ex One company, will offer contract services in addition to equipment sales and service.
“We are very glad about this new partnership and see a perfect match,” said Ingo Ederer, Voxeljet’s managing director. “ProMetal uses similar technology and targets industrial applications successfully in a different market.”
Voxeljet’s systems produce plastic models layer by layer as a binder is printed on thermoplastic powder from a CAD design. The resulting part is a porous component that can be infiltrated with wax or epoxy to produce a prototype, functional part, design sample or pattern for investment casting.
“This is a natural extension for ProMetal,” said Dan Maas, business development manager. “Adding investment casting capabilities to our current sand casting technology clearly enhances the portfolio we offer to the metalcasting industry.”
