Gregg Industries Closed by Parent Neenah Print E-mail

Released on February 11, 2009

Neenah Enterprises Inc., Neenah, Wis., announced it will close subsidiary Gregg Industries, El Monte, Calif., in mid-May due to declining sales.

Neenah Chief Executive Officer Robert Ostendorf said the decision to close the ferrous metalcasting facility, which serves the truck and heavy machinery markets, was brought on by the poor economy.

“Most of the remaining 225 workers at Gregg will receive notices this week that the plant will close,” said Jeff Hillier, Gregg’s vice president and general manager. “We are…giving employees 60 days notice.”

According to a company press release, Gregg produces highly-cored iron castings intended to help industrial, automotive and truck companies meet increasingly stringent environmental regulations. The company’s facilities cover eight acres of land in El Monte.

Neenah Enterprises Inc. is the indirect parent holding company of Neenah Foundry Co. The metalcasting facility, which makes iron castings and steel forgings for the heavy municipal market and selected segments of the industrial markets, was not reported to be affected by the Gregg closure.
