Diversified automotive supplier TRW Automotive, Livonia, Mich., announced it will cease manufacturing operations at its Warrenton Casting Center, Warrenton, Ga., at the end of the first quarter of 2009.
Warrenton Casting Center is a gray iron automotive metalcasting facility with the capacity to pour more than 600 tons of gray iron per day. The metalcasting facility employs about 215 people on two shifts and operates two automatic molding machines, four 10-ton induction furnaces and four core machines. TRW is currently exploring the sale of the facility, among other options, with the help of a consulting firm.
TRW, which produces electronic, steering, braking and occupant safety systems for more than 40 vehicle manufacturers, acquired the Warrenton Casting Center in October 2006. The company reported 2007 sales of $14.7 billion. On Dec. 4, 2008, the company announced that both actual and forecasted levels of vehicle production in global automotive markets had declined beyond its previously forecasted levels.
