Taiwanese Caster Da Shiang Wins New CGI Contract Print E-mail

Released on November 13, 2008

Da Shiang Precision Co. Ltd., Tianjin, Taiwan, a member of the Mei Ta Industrial group, last month received a high volume series production order for compacted graphite iron (CGI) integrated exhaust manifold/turbocharger housings.

The company’s production of silicon-molybdenum-alloyed CGI turbocharger housings began during autumn 2007 with an order from BorgWarner, who assembled them for Renault. The current annualized production rate of those castings has grown to more than 100,000 castings per year. Last month, Da Shiang received another order for silicon-molybdenum-CGI integrated exhaust manifold/turbocharger housings. These components will be delivered to both BorgWarner and Honeywell in Europe for assembly and ultimate use in Volkswagen passenger vehicles. Series production began during October 2008, and the mature volume is expected to reach approximately 1 million castings per year.

Da Shiang produces CGI components using process control technology from SinterCast, Stockholm, Sweden.

“Our CGI development efforts have resulted in a highly efficient and robust CGI series production process,” said Y.S. Chen, president of Mei Ta Industrial. “We are confident that our initial series production activities will further increase the confidence in the Mei Ta Group as a high-volume supplier of silicon-molybdenum-CGI exhaust manifolds and turbocharger housings, leading toward additional series production commitments.”
