Mid-City Foundry Advances Relationship With CGI Provider SinterCast Print E-mail

Released on August 13, 2008

Mid-City Foundry Co., Milwaukee, has contracted SinterCast, Stockholm, Sweden, to help make compacted graphite iron (CGI) castings available to its customers on a production basis.

Building on trials conducted since 2004, the agreement has increased Mid-City’s CGI product development and production. The company produces numerous CGI cylinder heads and turbocharger housings, with cast weights ranging from 220-1,200 lbs. (100-550 kg), for the industrial power sector. The agreement has expanded Mid-City’s reach, allowing it to produce components from 1-3,000 lbs. (0.5-1,350 kg). In addition to its CGI line, Mid-City produces gray ductile and alloy iron castings for the compressor, gear and transmission, and specialty machinery industries.

“As engine operating pressures continue to increase, particularly in the industrial power sector, we anticipate more opportunities for CGI growth in the future and look forward to developing these opportunities together with SinterCast,” said Gary Baior, Mid-City’s VP of operations.

SinterCast provides process control technology for high volume CGI production to a variety of companies worldwide.

“We will continue to provide engineering support from our technical office in the Chicago area and look forward to the opportunity for a permanent SinterCast installation as the Mid-City production volumes continue to increase,” said S. Dawson, SinterCast president and CEO.
