Eck Industries Licenses Dual Metal Casting Process Print E-mail

Released on June 11, 2008

Eck Industries, Manitowoc, Wis., has purchased a non-exclusive license for the Cast-Decant-Cast (CDC) Process from NovaUCD, the Innovation and Technology Transfer Centre at Univ. College Dublin, Dublin, Ireland.

According to a release issued by the university, the CDC Process produces near-net shape components from two dissimilar alloys or metals in a single multi-step casting operation. The process has been used to produce components in two different Al-Si alloys, an aluminum alloy and an aluminum metal-matrix composite, and an aluminum alloy and a zinc alloy. The university believes the process should be capable of making castings from magnesium, copper, steel and superalloys.

“The CDC Process will allow Eck to meet our customer’s requirements of having dramatically different properties and performance at different locations within a single casting,” said Dave Weiss, Eck’s vice president of sales and engineering.

Eck Industries produces aluminum castings and metal matrix composite castings.
