Norwood Foundry, Nisku, Alberta, Canada, was awarded the Alberta Business Award of Distinction for Health and Safety Innovation for a ventilation system it developed in its ferrous and nonferrous metalcasting facility.
The award is given “to an organization or individual that has been outstanding in developing, promoting and enhancing health and safety innovation in their sector,” according to the criteria set out by the Alberta Chamber of Commerce and its co-sponsors.
Norwood’s new purpose-built ventilation system pulls carbon monoxide gases produced in the metalcasting process through a system of hoods, into the facility’s existing ventilation system, and out of the building using the natural convection created by cooling molds.
“It is a pleasure to see the [metalcasting] industry get some positive coverage in health and safety,” said Robert Day, Norwood’s general manager.
The metalcaster employs 70 and produces custom metal castings for a variety of industries.
