On Jan. 31, 2008, Simpson Technologies GmbH, Steinhausen, Switzerland, acquired the Disa sand laboratory testing equipment product line.

The line, which contains approximately 50 CE-certified and European standardized instruments, was purchased from Disa Industrie AG, Schaffhausen, Switzerland. Developed by Georg Fischer AG, also of Schaffhausen, the line was transferred to Disa following its acquisition of the remaining shares in the joint venture Georg Fischer Disa in 2000.

The production and support systems for the business will transfer from the Disa facility in Schaffhausen to a new Simpson Technologies GmbH facility in Steinhausen. The nearly 900-sq.-m facility in Steinhausen will be equipped with a production department, showroom/laboratory and warehouse. Several staff members connected to the product line in Switzerland and Germany also will transfer with the product line to Simpson.

According to a company press release, the addition of the products to Simpson’s own sand testing line, based in the U.S., makes Simpson Technologies the largest supplier of metalcasting sand laboratory and control technology in the world.
