Material Technologies Inc., Los Angeles, has acquired Stress Analysis Technologies Inc., Oxford, England, a wholly owned subsidiary of UTEK Corp., Tampa, Fla., in a stock transaction.

UTEK, a finance company focused on technology transfer, and Material Technologies, a company that engages in the research and development of technologies to monitor and measure metal fatigue, announced the transaction, which will transfer the license to a non-destructive test (NDT) to measure residual stress.

According to a company press release, most current methods of measuring stress are either destructive or rely on large facilities. Researchers at the Univ. of Oxford have developed a portable, non-destructive method for measuring residual stress in structures.
