AFS Spearheads Pollution Prevention Efforts Print E-mail
Released on Tuesday, January 23, 2007

The AFS Pollution Prevention Methods & Technology Committee (4-N) on Jan. 18 held its inaugural meeting at AFS headquarters in Schaumburg, Ill. The new committee, which falls under the Molding Methods & Materials Division, will serve as a technical resource to the metalcasting industry on low emission binders, products and pollution prevention technology and practices.

The 4-N committee also will increase activity in the area of new and existing low emission core sand binders, other low emission sand additives and pollution control methods employed in sand molding, recycling and preparation processes.

“AFS is excited about the formation of the new committee,” said Jerry Call, AFS executive vice president. “The members of 4-N will help AFS take a leadership role in providing good information to help reduce the environmental impact of metalcasting operations. This committee readily accepts the challenge of helping metalcasters identify and understand pollution prevention options that will reduce their environmental impact and keep their operations competitive in the global market.”
