Metal recycler Omnisource, Fort Wayne, Ind., plans to invest approximately $9 million to replace existing shredding operations at its scrap processing and metal shredding facility in Toledo, Ohio, according to a company press release.

The company said the new operations, which will produce shredded steel product for use by steel producers as feedstock, will increase its rate of recovery of recyclable materials and retain about 50 jobs.

“On behalf of Lucas County, I’m happy to see that OmniSource will be keeping good-paying jobs here in our community,” said County Commissioner Pete Gerken. “This commitment is a win for our residents and a win for economic development in our region.”

In addition to the Toledo facility, OmniSource employs more than 2,000 in its 41 other North American recycling plants.
