General Motors (GM) has initiated a new contract for the supply of its magnesium alloys with U.S. Magnesium LLC, Salt Lake City, Utah.
The multi-year deal will commence at the start of 2008 to ensure uninterrupted supply of magnesium to the automotive giant. U.S. Magnesium will supply alloy to GM’s North American plants.
“We are optimistic that the assurance of supply along with our recently enhanced technical service and development capabilities will facilitate growth of magnesium automotive applications in the coming years,” said Mike Legge, president and CEO of U.S. Magnesium.
U.S. Magnesium manufactures primary magnesium from metal salts mined from the Great Salt Lake. It is the last remaining magnesium producer in the U.S., according to a company press release.
