Released on August 8, 2007
The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) plans to issue a statement this week indicating it will begin escalating prosecution of egregious employers of unregistered immigrants, according to a story published in the New York Times.
The statement echoes a release issued by the department several months ago. The government began escalating such prosecutions following that announcement, cracking down on companies that had a significant number of employees whose Social Security Number did not match official records.
The department now has taken the cause back up in the wake of a comprehensive immigration bill failing to pass the latest congressional session.
