Metalcaster-Tested Supervisor Manual Published Print E-mail
Released on December 20, 2011

A veteran metalcasting consultant recently wrote and published a textbook on supervisor training.

“This book was developed as a result of 18 years of working with supervisors in foundries in Indiana and Wisconsin,” said Joyce Karnes, author of Supervisor’s Training Guide and president of Positive Options Inc., Mt. Orab, Ohio.

The 245-page book offers a how-to guide for supervisors in manufacturing settings. The text takes on a conversational, seminar-like tone and offers review quizzes and case-studies, several of which seem to be based on metalcasting facilities. According to Karnes, the book was developed through observations of actual supervisors in their place of business.

“[The book] focuses on the people skills that are needed to interact with a wide variety of people in harsh working conditions,” she said. “Many of the supervisors promoted in foundries come from the ranks of those with little education past high school but a strong work ethic enforced with determination and stamina. Indeed a unique group to address.”
