Mid-City Foundry Enhances CGI Capability Print E-mail

Released on November 21, 2011

Mid-City Foundry Co., Milwaukee, has ordered a compacted graphite iron (CGI) process control system to bring its production of CGI components entirely in-house.

For the past three years, Mid-City Foundry has produced niche volumes of CGI parts, including cylinder heads, compressor housings and other components for the industrial power industry, under the supervision of an outside consultant. After the new SinterCast process control system is installed in December, the company will be capable of producing the parts independently.

The CGI components produced at Mid-City Foundry range from 220-1,200 lbs. (100-550 kg) and are used primarily by offshore oil and gas customers.

“As the market demand for high quality CGI components continues to increase, we have invested in a permanent installation of the…process control technology to increase our production capability and improve the flexibility and lead time with which we can serve our customers,” said Richard Wieland, president of Mid-City Foundry.

In addition to the CGI work, Mid-City Foundry produces jobbing and series production gray and ductile iron castings for more than 100 customers in the industrial engine, compressor, gear and transmission, and specialty machinery industries.
