Magna Makes Second Casting Acquisition in Four Months Print E-mail

Released on November 17, 2011

Cosma International, Brampton, Ontario, Canada, announced it has signed an agreement to acquire the four diecasting operations of BDW Technologies Group, Schwaben, Germany.

Cosma, an operating unit of Magna International Inc., will acquire two operations in Germany, one in Poland and one in Hungary. BDW’s four facilities perform vacuum high-pressure aluminum diecasting and expect full-year 2011 total sales of about $216 million.

Cosma acquired aluminum permanent mold caster Grenville Castings Ltd., Smiths Falls, Ontario, Canada, in August. Grenville Castings is a supplier of structural castings to the automotive, heavy truck and recreational markets. BDW's current production customers include Volkswagen, Audi, Porsche, Mercedes-Benz, Ferrari, ZF and others.

"The technologies gained from BDW will complement the low-pressure casting capabilities we recently acquired from Grenville Castings," said Horst Prelog, company president.

The company said it expects the transaction to be completed in the first quarter of 2012, subject to regulatory approvals.

Cosma has 47 manufacturing facilities and 25 product development and engineering centers worldwide. Magna employs approximately 104,000 in 269 manufacturing operations and 84 product development, engineering and sales centers in 26 countries.
