ThyssenKrupp Waupaca, Waupaca, Wis., has contracted with Finishing Technology International, Alpharetta, Ga., for a quality inspection vision system for the vertical molding line at its Tell City, Ind., facility.

The vision system, installed within the chamber of the molding machine, checks for mold/sand defects and, if necessary, takes corrective action, including real-time decisions on pouring.

The patented system, to be provided by Inspectomation, Mannheim, Germany, will be the first of its kind in North America. Start-up is scheduled in the fall of 2011.
