Hawver Aluminum Completes Large Seals Print E-mail

Released on April 15, 2010

Hawver Aluminum Foundry Inc., Tampa, Fla., has delivered two 11-ft. diameter seals to the Univ. of South Florida, breaking a company record for casting size.

The two castings were produced using the largest and heaviest molds ever produced in Hawver Aluminum’s 35-year history.

“We produced four molds measuring 7 x 12 ft. and containing 8,000 lbs. of nobake sand,” company owner Jim Hawver said.

With a poured weight of 800 lbs., the molds yielded aluminum castings weighing more than 700 lbs. each. The castings were powder coated and assembled in halves to form the Univ. of South Florida seals.

Hawver Aluminum produces commercial, military and aerospace castings in aluminum, brass and bronze via the green sand and nobake processes. Its standard casting sizes are up to 400 lbs. and 8 ft. long.
