The Schaefer Group, Inc., Dayton, Ohio, announces that Walker Die Casting, Lewisburg, Tenn., has finished putting 100 million pounds of aluminum through its Schaefer barrel type transfer ladle.
For two years, Walker Die Casting has been using a large 3,880-lb. capacity barrel-type transfer ladle supplied by Schaefer. After ordering a second unit from Schaefer, the diecaster is relining this ladle for the first time, after 50,000 tons of molten aluminum has been transported in it. The only servicing that it has needed during all this use is to patch the small target area of the floor where the stream of aluminum always hit, and slight patching of the pouring spout . The Schaefer ladle lining is proprietary but energy efficient, reducing the casing temperature of the ladle by 300F over a conventional lining.
